Newham welcomes Roseland Furniture

A growing Cornish furniture business is relocating its head office and its popular clearance store to Truro’s riverside business district.

Roseland Furniture sells a wide range of oak, pine, painted and solid wood home furniture to a UK-wide customer base and has seen business boom recently with the company enjoying increased sales during the lockdown period thanks to extra online orders.

Now Roseland Furniture is relocating its Truro office and workforce of 40 employees to a larger 15,000 sq ft base in Newham to enable the company to grow further. Its flagship store in Calenick Street in Truro will remain, with the clearance store - currently located in St Clement Street - transferring to Newham later this year.

Michael Broom, Operations Manager at Roseland Furniture, said: “We’ve been looking for bigger and better premises for our growing business for some time and it was a stroke of luck that the premises in Newham became available.

“We are experiencing incredible growth at the moment, doubling the size of our customer service team recently, and we needed extra space to accommodate this growing workforce, especially now given the Covid-19 social distancing guidelines. The new office means we can create a comfortable, modern work environment for our growing team.

“We can also provide a much more convenient and accessible location for customers to visit our clearance store, with our own customer car park on site.”

Roseland Furniture’s recent growth has seen a 25% increase in its online sales team, as well as new staff hired in web development and internal media, all of whom will now be based at the Newham office.

The business, which has always been based in Truro, sells a range of solid wood furniture via its website as well as from its Truro high street store, including furniture for bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, kitchens and offices.

“We’ve always had a high growth rate but the combination of an increased interest in online shopping in recent years coupled with the Covid-19 outbreak - meaning more people were shopping online as stores were closed - has led to significant growth for our online division in a short space of time, and we have hired locally to manage this, creating a number of new jobs,” Michael added.

“For many people, the lockdown was an opportunity to carry out home improvements, so we have actually grown our customer base and seen increased sales, despite the pressures that the Coronavirus outbreak caused for many retailers.”

The clearance store is popular locally with all online returns sold for a maximum price of £100.

Michael added: “We are a 100% Cornish business and our clearance store offers really genuine discounts, so we’ve always seen it as our pay-back to local customers, as it provides a truly great opportunity for local people to pick up a bargain.

“Some items may be faulty or part-damaged but very often they are just unwanted online returns, end of line or ex-display items, and prices are very low. We’re excited that the Newham base will make it easier for local people to visit after the new store opens before Christmas.”
