Why Stringer's Gym in Newham is the perfect place to get into shape in 2018

With the ringing in of another year, there will be plenty of people looking to get fit and lose weight after enjoying more than a plateful of festive excess this Christmas. Helping them to exercise responsibly and keep the weight off is the job of Ian Stringer, owner and manager of Stringer’s Gym.

Based at Newham, the gym first began welcoming gym users in December 2010 and has grown a strong membership base.

"We offer over 40 classes per week, personal training, as well as bespoke fitness programs which are tailor made for clients’ needs," said Ian, who ran his own personal training businesses, Fitness-matters before launching Stringer’s Gym.

The Newham venue offers a range of free and fixed weights and a cardiovascular studio as well as numerous group fitness classes including interval training, box-fit, abs blast, spinning and step.

In fact, that mix of fun alongside classes and plans designed to work up a sweat, is what brings the crowds to Stringer’s – whatever their age or fitness ability.

"We have a very strong membership base," said Ian. "We have a good balance of men and women aged from 15 to 85 using our facilities."

And being based at Newham, Truro’s riverside business district, is the perfect choice for Stringer’s, with Ian praising the parking and easy access to the city centre as two of the highlights. And that central location also makes it easy for gym users to travel to and from their fitness classes.

Explaining more of the benefits of being a Stringer’s gym user, Ian added: "We have great instructors here with a wealth of knowledge and experience who are extremely approachable and friendly. Having the gym split into four separate training areas is also a great advantage and there is no need to feel intimidated or self-conscious."

The weeks after Christmas are always a key time for any fitness business as many people resolve to ditch their unhealthy ways to get fit and take more care of their eating habits.

"We are expecting to see an influx of members towards the end of January," said Ian who added that the gym also offers a wealth of nutritional advice. "A well designed nutritional plan is a way to maximise energy, lose fat and gain lean muscle."

But if you enjoy heading out on the golf course as a way to keep active, Newham is the ideal place to visit with Truro Golf Warehouse offering a wide selection of new and second hand golf equipment at low prices.

And if all that New Year fitness takes its toll, Oliver Hughes Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinics has a growing reputation in the South West as a leading clinic for athletic treatment and rehabilitation. With established clientele that range from Rio 2016 Olympians and London 2012 Olympic veterans to recreational athletes, the clinic continues to attract a range of sports enthusiasts from amateur to elite level.
